Silvan Jeger wurde 1985 in Olten geboren und lebt heute mit seiner Familie in Zürich und Berlin. Seine berufliche Tätigkeit ist einserseits bestimmt von einem Interesse an unterschiedlichster Musik und den jeweiligen Funktionsweisen und Produktionsverfahren sowie deren Vermittlung, andererseits beschäftigt sich Jeger intensiv mit dem Verfassen von Texten.
Schon während des Kontrabassstudiums an der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (Bachelor und Master, 2005-2010) bestritt er Auftritte als Sänger, Gitarrist, Cellist, E-Bassist und Bediener diverser elektronischer Geräte, stilistisch verteilt auf einen breiten Horizont aus Jazz und freier Improvisation, Theatermusik und experimentellem Pop. Zurzeit vor allem mit dem Trio «Omnivore», im Lecture-Performance-Duo mit Dalia Donadio, mit dem Reto Suhner Quartett sowie im Cringe-Pop-Soloprojekt «Kingdom Behauptung».
Als studierter Jazzmusiker sind Tempo und Timing, Gesamtklang und Zwischentöne, Improvisation und Formbewusstsein sowie das Spiel mit der Andeutung nicht nur leere Schlagworte, sondern beschreiben gerade auch im Verfassen von Texten Jegers ästhetische Verfahrensweise. Die bisher überschaubare Bibliografie steht im Gegensatz zu den unzähligen Veröffentlichungen als Musiker, die unter anderem mit den Trios «DAY&TAXI» oder «Uassyn» auf verschiedenste Bühnen im In- und Ausland geführt haben. So etwa an internationale Festivals, auf Tourneen in Europa, Südamerika und Japan oder regelmässig in die wichtigen Schweizer Jazzclubs. Die Solo- und Bandprojekte werden von städtischer, kantonaler und nationaler Kulturförderung sowie von privaten Stiftungen unterstützt.
Als Theatermusiker war Jeger für verschiedene Produktionen verantwortlich, u.a. für «Tell/Zahhak» von Mass&Fieber 2012/13 in Altdorf, Zürich und Teheran, «Die Wand» am Theater Aachen (2016) sowie als Texter, Musiker und Performer bei den Projekten «CHURCH OF GOLD» (2019) und «No More F.O.M.O.» (2021). Lehrtätigkeit an der Musikschule Dietikon für Kontrabass, E-Bass und Pop-/Rockbands, für Liedbegleitung/Gitarre am Institut Unterstrass in Zürich und für Bass und als Leiter des Jazz-Workshops an der Kantonsschule Küsnacht. Von 2015 bis 2022 Vorstandsmitglied der Werkstatt für improvisierte Musik, Zürich, und im Oktober 2017 Artist-in-Residence im Zürcher Jazzclub Moods.
Ebenfalls an der ZHdK absolviert Jeger von 2018 bis 2020 einen Zweitmaster in «Transdisziplinarität in den Künsten». In der Folge schreibt er verstärkt fiktionale Songtexte, die unter dem Pseudonym «Kingdom Behauptung» in ein experimentelles Rap-Album münden. Nach dieser Scharnierveröffentlichung zwischen Musik und Text beginnt Jeger literarisch zu schreiben. Derzeit steht ein Romanmanuskript kurz vor dem Abschluss, das um unaufhaltsam wachsendes Ungeziefer, künstlich intelligente Autos und die sich anbahnende Klimakatastrophe kreist.
2026 wird Jeger mit seiner Kurzgeschichte «Milch» eine:r der drei Gewinner:innen des OpenNet-Schreibwettbewerbs der Solothurner Literaturtage.
Silvan Jeger was born in Olten in 1985 and lives with his family in Zurich and Berlin. On the one hand, his work is shaped by his interest in a wide variety of music and the respective modes of operation and production processes as well as their communication. On the other hand, Jeger is intensively involved in writing literary texts.
Even while studying double bass at the Zurich University of the Arts (bachelor's and master's degrees, 2005-2010), he performed as a singer, guitarist, cellist, electric bassist and operator of various electronic devices, stylistically ranging from jazz and free improvisation to theatre music and experimental pop. He currently performs with the trio “Omnivore”, as a duo with Dalia Donadio focussing on lecture performances, with the Reto Suhner Quartet and in his Cringe-Pop solo project “Kingdom Behauptung”.
As a trained jazz musician, tempo and timing, overall sound and nuances, improvisation and formal awareness, as well as the playful use of hints, are not just empty buzzwords, but rather form part of Jeger’s aesthetic approach, particularly in his writing. His relatively small bibliography contrasts sharply with his countless publications as a musician, which have taken him, specially with the trios “DAY&TAXI” or “UASSYN”, to various stages both in Switzerland and abroad, including appearances at international festivals, tours in Europe, South America, and Japan, and regular performances in major Swiss jazz clubs. His solo and band projects are supported by municipal, cantonal, and national cultural funding, as well as private foundations.
Responsible for theatre music for various productions, including “Tell/Zahhak” by Mass&Fieber in 2012/13 in Altdorf, Zurich and Tehran, “Die Wand” in 2016 at the Theater Aachen, and as author, musician and performer in the projects “CHURCH OF GOLD” (2019) and “No More F.O.M.O.” (2021). Teaches double bass, electric bass and pop/rock bands at the Dietikon Music School, song accompaniment/guitar at the Institut Unterstrass in Zurich since 2022 and bass and Jazz-workshop at the Kantonsschule Küsnacht since 2023. From 2015 to 2022, he was a board member of the Werkstatt für Improvisierte Musik, Zürich. In October 2017, Jeger was artist-in-residence at the Zurich jazz club Moods.
Also at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), Jeger completed a second master's degree in "Transdisciplinarity in the Arts" from 2018 to 2020. Following this, he increasingly focused on writing fictional song lyrics, which culminated in an experimental rap album released under the pseudonym "Kingdom Behauptung" . After this pivotal release between music and lyrics, Jeger began writing fiction. He is currently nearing completion of a novel manuscript that revolves around relentlessly growing insects, artificially intelligent cars, and the looming climate catastrophe.
In 2026, Jeger's short story "Milch" (Milk) was one of the three winners of the OpenNet competition at the Solothurn Literature Days.
